What is a pre-connection inspection and why do I need one?

A Pre-Connection Inspection is a critical step in preparing your new home for connection to water and wastewater services. This inspection ensures that your property complies with Altogether's connection assessment criteria before services are activated.

It is the responsibility of the homeowner or builder to submit a pre-connection inspection request. Without this, we won’t know when to schedule a visit. Please visit our shop to submit the request.

Once construction of your home is complete, you can start getting ready to move in by requesting a water and wastewater pre-connection inspection. Our technicians will complete a pre-connection inspection to ensure that your home complies with our requirements outlined in the connection assessment Prior to booking in the pre-connection inspection, you will need to ensure you have the below certificates:

  • Final pre inspection report from Cessnock City Council (Huntlee) OR Final plumbing inspection sticker issued by NSW Government, Office of Fair Trading (Box Hill, Cooranbong, Huntlee, Pitt Town)

  • Certificate of compliance for electrical work (CCEW)

Access to the house is needed to complete the inspection.

  • Toilets: Recycled water can be used for flushing toilets, reducing the use of potable water.

  • Garden Irrigation: Using recycled water for outdoor irrigation helps conserve drinking water for more critical needs.

  • Washing Machines: the cold water tap to the washing machine must be connected to recycled water

Please see our plumbers guide for more details.

No, in NSW before you can legally occupy a new home, you will  need an Occupancy Certificate issued by the local council or an accredited certifier. This certificate confirms that the home complies with all building and health regulations, including having proper plumbing and sewer connections. Without a working sewer connection, you will not be able to obtain this certificate, meaning you cannot legally move in.

Yes, as long as the bidet is connected to drinking water and the appropriate backflow prevention device (RPZD) is installed.

A drinking water meter will need to be purchased at the time of building approval and will be installed 10 business days prior to your construction start date for use during construction.

A purchasable item is an additional item that will be needed in order for the infrastructure to be compliant. Such as:

  • Tank riser – a tank riser is needed when the tank sits too low
  • Boundary kit Heigh Adjustment
  • Boundary kit cover
  • Wastewater collection tank lid
  • Water meter height adjustment
  • Water meter cock replacement

These items may be installed at the time of or after the connection.

Only flush the 3P’s - paper, pee and poo - down the loo! Your wastewater collection tank is part of the sustainable recycled water system. To avoid blockages and damage to the system, please DO NOT put the following into your toilet, kitchen, bathroom, or laundry sink:

  • Tampons, sanitary pads, condoms, and wipes

  • Oils and grease, milk, food scraps, cooking oil

  • Hair clippings

  • Glass, metal, wood, rocks, seafood shells, kitty litter

  • Cloth or synthetic material, nappies, socks, pantyhose, clothes, plastic objects

  • Any chemical other than standard cleaning or laundry products, including toxic, caustic, acidic or poisonous substances

  • Degreasing solvents or paints (water-soluble or oil-based)

  • Explosive or flammable material including hydrocarbon fuels, paint thinner or anti-freeze.
